Education - As a trustee of Coastal Carolina University, Tommy has an in-depth understanding of what our children need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world. He is committed to reforming our public education system to make sure tax dollars are spent in the classroom not on educrats in Columbia; that good teachers are rewarded; and that classroom discipline is enforced. He believes that each child is uniquely created by God and that parents should have the last word for their children's education.

Immigration - The federal government has failed to protect our borders against illegal immigration. Now, immigration has become a serious local problem. Tommy believes that laws should be enforced so that illegal aliens and other criminal elements do not want to come here. Rather than passing new laws that unnecessarily burden our state's employers, he supports enforcing existing laws by providing our local police and courts with the resources needed to arrest illegal aliens who commit crimes and deport them. Once an accurate and enforceable verification system is in place, employers who benefit from the labor of illegal aliens should forfeit their ability to conduct business in South Carolina.

Law Enforcement - All crimes should be prosecuted and convicted criminals punished. Law enforcement officers who protect us against criminals, deserve our respect and support. It is our duty to provide the resources they need to do the job. More importantly, they deserve to know that judges will apply the law strictly and fairly. Tommy will only support conservative judges who will not hesitate to punish those who are convicted.

Judicial Reform - Our current procedure for appointing judges is antiquated and needs to be changed. For weeks until the votes are cast, those seeking judgeships must spend time "begging" votes from every member of the legislature. Tommy believes that the way that a judge is appointed should be as honorable as the position itself: a system modeled on the Federal system where the governor nominates and the legislature confirms.

Guns - Tommy fully supports the Second Amendment and the rights of gun owners to protect their families and property. Tommy also believes that hunting and fishing are part of our cultural tradition and must be protected.

Pro - Life - As a father of a son with hemophilia, Tommy knows that all children are gifts from God regardless of their condition - health, financial or otherwise. He absolutely supports protection for the unborn. Furthermore, he understands the emotional and financial challenges faced by those who have children with special needs.

Restructuring - As chairman of the Audit Committee at Coastal Carolina University, Tommy has seen the importance of putting rigorous controls over government spending. As a trustee, he has been instrumental in eliminating wasteful spending, dismissing those who have abused the system and establishing procedures to ensure accountability. Tommy will bring his financial experience to Columbia to make government more efficient and less costly.

Taxes - Tommy has spent his entire career designing and providing compliance services for corporate-level retirement plans. He designs plans to enable employers and employees to save money for retirement by legally sheltering it from taxes. He also understands, from his experience at Coastal Carolina University, that wasteful spending in government can be controlled, but we must have leaders willing to demand accountability and adherence to the rules.

Economic Growth - District 18 is unique for the rural beauty of Blue Ridge and the cosmopolitan charm of Greer. Tommy believes that quality economic growth is necessary to retain and improve the character of the District. He will actively work for solutions to the problems that are common to all citizens of the District.

Marriage & Family - Tommy believes that marriage is reserved for one man and one woman. For Tommy, family is important, and he understands that the state has a duty to protect it.

Agriculture - Agriculture remains our state's second largest industry. Tommy will work to protect it and will support legislation that will encourage consumption of locally grown produce. Wherever possible, our schools should use local produce in the lunchroom.
